Please note that this Grasshopper meeting follows the ‘Hero for a Day’ AEC Hackathon event @ Hawkins\Brown which is a separate sign-up for event – applications are open for this Hackathon, find the ‘Hero for a Day’ details here.

Hawkins\Brown are the hosts for the 2nd Grasshopper UK Meeting of 2026, organised by Simply Rhino. Join us in Clerkenwell at the offices of Hawkins\Brown along with Remap and teams from the ‘Hero for a Day’ Hackathon. MKS DTECH, who bring us BEAM and Rhino Sync, will be our developer presentation for the evening and we’ll also have Andrew Le Bihan from McNeel (developers of Rhino and Grasshopper) in the room, so come and discuss the future (or present) of Rhino, Grasshopper, Rhino.Inside.Revit, Rhino.Inside.AutoCAD, RhinoCompute, and more!

The meeting will follow our popular format of presentations with Q&A followed by time for networking, drinks and conversations at the end of the meeting.

  • Meeting Date: Thursday 21st May 2026
  • Time: 18:30-20:30
  • Location: Hawkins\Brown, 30 Clerkenwell Road, London, EC1M 5PG

Meeting Introduction

Meeting welcome with Paul Cowell from the Grasshopper UK Meeting organisers, Simply Rhino.

Presentation 1 | Hero for Day: Supercharging R&D for the built environment industry

Jack Stewart, Ben Porter – Remap

Designers are familiar with charrettes, workshops and critique, commonplace in practice, to produce innovative design. Yet we don’t often commit the same level of curiosity, exploration and investigation to the processes and technologies that we use to do it.

In the technology world, this is often explored through Hackathons. Remap, digital transformation and software development consultancy, will introduce how they implement a ‘hackathon mentality’ with their clients. How they do this through ‘Hero for a Day’ events that explore practical strategies for testing, procuring, and building tools that transform workflows, and empower teams to stay ahead in the evolving landscape of digital technology.

We’ll use this presentation to introduce the challenges that have been addressed during a Hero for a Day industry event, run at Hawkins\Brown, during the day prior to this Grasshopper meeting.

Remap is a digital transformation consultancy that improves the way that built environment organisations work using in-depth knowledge of technology, design and construction. Founded by built environment professionals turned self-taught software developers, Jack, Ben & Finn bring over 30 years’ combined industry expertise spearheading digital transformation with some of the largest built environment organisations in the UK. With a solid foundation in design & construction and a passion for using technology to solve problems, Remap are on a mission to transform the industry from a fresh perspective.

Presentation 2 | Hero for a Day 2026: The Hacks!

A Hero for a Day hackathon squad! Organised by Hawkins\Brown

What if one day could change how we design, deliver, and experience buildings? Hero for a Day is a one-day hackathon bringing together industry experts to explore real challenges, test ideas, and rapidly prototype new digital tools. From AI-assisted design to sustainability automation, and human-centred experiences, this is a space for curiosity, experimentation and collaboration.

Rolling on from the Remap introduction each Hackathon team will do a deeper dive into the challenge that they took on, run through their methodology and the output hacks from the day. Whether you’re frustrated by inefficiencies, interested in emerging technologies, or sitting on an idea waiting to happen – this presentation will show you how teams have explored that kind of thing all in one fun, intense and innovative day!

A Hero for a Day hackathon squad will be assembling during the day to take on a number of industry challenges and develop / prototype solutions for them. We’re not sure exactly who our Heroes will be yet (it could be you!). But expect digital design wizards from BEAM, Remap and Hawkins\Brown alongside others to present their day’s hacks. If you want to join the Hero for a Day hackathon, then sign up here, the team would love to have your brain for the day.

Presentation 3 | MKS DTECH | BEAM, Rhino Sync & Custom AEC Workflows

Mauro from MKS DTECH will present a series of practical workflows developed around BEAM and Rhino Sync, focusing on how Grasshopper and Rhino can integrate more effectively into BIM and collaborative project environments.

The session will showcase real project scenarios involving geometry, BIM data, synchronization, and multi-user collaboration between Rhino and Revit. It will explore how computational design workflows can move beyond isolated scripting into coordinated production and live collaboration processes.

The presentation will also touch on current challenges related to interoperability, data management, and team collaboration in complex AEC projects, alongside some of the tools and approaches being developed in collaboration with international practices.

Mauro Sabiu – Working at Perkins+Will and Zaha Hadid Architects, I was exposed to the complexities of BIM and the challenges of delivering projects in the AEC industry. Seeing how much time architects spend on repetitive tasks pushed me to explore how technology could enhance the creative process, not just streamline production. At MKS DTECH, I focus on building solutions that make design more intuitive and enjoyable. BEAM is a key example, helping architects move data between Rhino and Revit effortlessly. My goal is to create tools that support designers, letting them focus on ideas rather than battling software.
